CODA International,


The Millie Brother Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to hearing children of deaf adults to help them pursue their post-secondary education. The scholarship can be used for undergraduate or graduate study at any accredited institution of higher education in the world. On average two $3000 scholarship are offered annually. These are one-time scholarships, but you may apply for as many years as you are in school. First-time winners will receive preference. 

Applicants must be the hearing son or daughter of Deaf parents; students from any country in the world are eligible to apply, but application materials must be submitted in English. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for further clarification.

At this time the scholarship application period is closed for the 2020-2021 school year. Please check this page in January 2021 for next year's scholarship application process.

Applications accepted May 1, 2020 - June 30, 2020. 

The scholarship application package is as follows:

  1. The online application form. 

  2. Essay: 2-page double-spaced

    1. Describe how your experience with Deaf parents has shaped your life and your goals.

    2. Include a description of your future career aspirations.

    3. Essays will be judged for organization, content, and creativity. We encourage you to ask someone else to proofread your essay before you submit it.

  3. In addition to 1-2 above, each applicant must submit:

    1. a transcript from your high school and your college or university if you are currently enrolled. Official transcripts (although not required) can take several weeks to process, so we encourage you request your transcripts well in advance of the deadline.

    2. two letters of recommendation from teachers (a link to the online recommendation forms will be sent upon receipt of your online application)

      The application package is not considered submitted until we have received your two recommendation letters, which must be received by June 30th. It can take up to two weeks to process your application. Note that processing times may be extended if applicants do not follow the file naming conventions laid out in the online application form. 

Winners will be announced at our conference and notified via email.

CODA International is a private organization maintained and governed by CODA International members. Codas being persons who have one or more parent with a demonstrable and verifiable hearing loss. Non Codas interested in becoming Supporting Members are encouraged and highly welcomed. Persons joining as a voting member or registering for CODA International conference or specified events, found to be non-Coda will automatically have their status changed to Supporting Member and any dues or fees paid to CODA will be forfeited. The privacy and security of all registered members is a top priority for the purpose of admittance, denials, and revocations.
